Photo Report: Event Recap: An Evening With Independent Watchmaker Kari Voutilainen
Benjamin Clymer drove the Q&A, beginning at 8 p.m., where he and Mr. Voutilainen talked about his childhood fantasy about working with his hands and being free and how he figured out how to achieve this through commitment, hard work, and persistence. The discussion was enthralling and the room was quiet with expectation – that is until questions were opened up to the floor and the conduits opened. Questions such as “what is your number one complication?” (chronograph), “who is your #1 watchmaker other than yourself?” (Philippe Dufour), and “what number pieces do you make a year?” (38).
It was a memorable night for all who joined in. For more information on the Horological Society of New York and their instructive program, if it’s not too much trouble, visit their website .
