Sotheby’s Hong Kong Announces Highlights From The Upcoming October Sale With A Rare Vintage Patek Philippe Leading The Pack
Leading the pack is an unbelievably cool Patek Philippe Reference 2523/1 Yellow Gold World Time Wristwatch with 24-hour sign and twofold crown, made in 1968 with a gauge of 4 to 5.5 million HKD ( $510,000 to $710,000 US). The reference 2523 was an expansion of Louis Cottier’s popular world-time configuration (developed in 1931) however with another two-crown plan that was dispatched in 1953. This model, a 2523-1, includes a guilloché dial that is essential for a restricted creation of 20. This watch is new to the market and will be intriguing to see.
The last time you saw one of these is the point at which we looked into the Patek 175 Auction at Christie’s in October 2014 , which sold for $2,297,618 in Geneva (see above). Anyway the 2523 coming up in the Sotheby’s highlights a guilloché dial made by Stern Fréres versus the cloisonné veneer dials seen in past sell-offs.
