Weekend Report: Seventy-Two Hours With The 6.3-Liter, V12, 731-Horsepower 2015 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta (Tons Of Photos)

Let me prelude everything I’m going to say with this: I live in Manhattan and don’t own a vehicle; my day by day driver is a CitiBike; my first vehicle was a 1986 Ford Tempo (LX though!); and I invest way an excessive amount of energy in a Toyota Corolla or comparative. I think you can tell where I’m going with this – there was essentially no chance I wasn’t going to super appreciate driving (and photographing) the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. This was an extraordinary weekend.

The F12 Berlinetta, which appeared in 2012, highlights a 6.3 liter, V12, 731 horsepower motor with a seven-speed, automated manual transmission – shifting is done by means of oars situated behind the guiding wheel. Once behind the wheel, the principal thing you notice is that this vehicle was not made for Manhattan traffic. It resembles a thoroughbred at a petting zoo – the consideration is cool and all, however it simply wants to run free. The West Side Highway, FDR Drive – it doesn’t make any difference, it’s difficult to truly make it move. So you creep along city roads, staying away from individuals as they leap out to take pictures. You’re not actually unnoticeable – it is, all things considered, a red (Rosso Maranello, to be definite) Ferrari, and it seems like this:

On Saturday, I headed to Lime Rock Park in Salisbury, CT, where Ferrari’s Scuderia Corsa group was taking part in the Tudor United Sportscar Championship . What is regularly a two-and-a-half-hour ride transformed into a five-hour extraordinary experience. Who knew that whipping through the Connecticut wide open in the early morning in a basically spic and span Ferrari F12 could be such a lot of fun? No compelling reason to answer that.

At the track, the F12 was put in plain view at the front of the claim to fame vehicle zone. By this point, I’d began to build up a feeling of ownership. This was my car. So when individuals started crowding around, I felt somewhat like one of those exhibition hall watches – “Don’t touch the art.”

Possibly propelled by what I’d seen at the track, I truly got the F12 moving Saturday evening and night. The handling on those winding back roads in northwest Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and Upstate New York was, well, you know, slightly better than my old Ford Tempo. It feels (and is) low and wide, and was much smoother than I expected – and for those bumpier streets, there is a perfect little “uneven street” catch to mellow the suspension (this, and the motor turn over, blinker, windshield wiper, drive mode, and headlight controls, are largely totally situated on the directing wheel). And keeping in mind that it sort of abandons saying, this vehicle was not designed to improve gas mileage, averaging in the 12-15 mpg range.

What time do you wake up on Sunday morning when you have a F12 stopped outside? Around 5 a.m. – and for this situation, to the heavy storm. A little precipitation wasn’t going to stop me, and keeping in mind that I didn’t push it as much as the earlier day, the weather conditions made for some pleasant photo-ops.

Sunday evening, with the clock ticking on my experience with the F12, I traveled up Bear Mountain, visited a few cousins in New Jersey, and afterward for reasons unknown other than the unadulterated delight of driving this vehicle, headed west with my sweetheart on I-78 through western New Jersey and into Pennsylvania.

And then, on Monday, much the same as that, they came and removed my vehicle. There it went, without much pomp – it seemed somewhat like an Irish goodbye.

Final thoughts on driving the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta? It was an uncommon, exhilarating, extraordinary, and likely once in a blue moon insight. Now it has returned to CitiBike and Toyota Corolla or similar.
